DESCRIPTION: Philmont Cavalcade is a horseback trek through the backcountry of Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico. Participants ride horseback between camps, covering approximately 50 miles while learning horsemanship, animal care, and backcountry camping skills. Each crew consists of 10-15 participants, including youth and at least three adult advisors, and is guided by experienced wranglers. Activities at staffed camps may include branding, roping, western lore, and cowboy action shooting. The Cavalcade provides a unique opportunity to experience Philmont’s wilderness and history from the saddle.
