Venturing Awards & Troop-level Advancement

Members of Crew 55 are encouraged and supported to work on Venturing Awards.  Members who are also active in a troop are assisted in their work toward the rank of Eagle and other troop-level advancements.

Eagle and Other Troop-Level Awards
Those members who have reached the rank of First Class in Troop 55 or some other troop can continue to work on the ranks of Star, Life and Eagle either within their troop or they can work on these ranks via Crew 55.  Leadership positions within Crew 55 can count toward the leadership requirements for these ranks.  Merit badges are usually earned through Troop 55 but can also be earned through Crew 55.  Troop 55 has certain rules as to whether a person who earns the rank of Eagle via Crew 55 is entitled to a Troop 55 Eagle Court of Honor.
Note:  Although a member can earn Venturing awards through his/her 21st birthday, the Eagle Award and other troop-level awards must be earned before the member's 18th birthday.

Venturing Awards
The Venturing Program offers a variety of awards that can be earned.  Each award has a leadership component, skills that must be mastered, and activities or projects that must be completed.  Unlike at troops, participants in the Venturing Program do not earn ranks.
  • The Bronze, Gold & Silver Awards are a sequence.  The Bronze Award can be earned in any of five skill areas.  The Gold Award follows the Bronze Award and requires additional activities and skills.  The Silver Award requires additional activities and skills and is the highest award of this sequence.
  • The Ranger Award is considered the most difficult of the Venturing awards to earn.  A candidate must complete eight core requirements, each of which involves demonstrating a specific set of skills, completing projects and teaching the skills to others.  A candidate must complete four electives out of 18 specialized skill areas.
  • The Quest Award is focused on sports and health.
  • The Trust Award is focused on religious faith and cultural understanding.
Note:  The Venturing awards must be earned before the member's 21st birthday.  Thus, a member can work on these awards for three years longer than for troop-level awards which much be earned before the member's 18th birthday.
